It is not the flexibility of mind but the flexibility of the English 
language and the complexities of moral choice.  There are many different 
actions which fall under this term.   "Lie" may be a pejorative, but all 
possible actions that the term encompasses may not be negative.   For 
instance, you may recall a famous French novel called Les Miserables.  
There is a seen where the main character, Jean Valjean,  an escaped 
convict, robs a Bishop of his silver candlesticks.  The police catch 
him, but the Bishop lies and says that he gave the candlesticks to 
Valjean.  This act, though a lie, saved Valjean's soul--so to speak.   
In Kantian philosophy, the correct act is the one which is performed for 
the greatest good.  Sometimes the greatest good may be served by a lie.

How can Paul conceal anything?  His books are published and can be 
purchased by anyone.  It is the responsibility of the readers to do 
their own reading if they want the contents revealed.
