The two extremes would be:
1. Believing anyone who has 5 minutes to tell their story, or
2. Believing only what one can see.
Neither is good, of course. But in a world of a lot of false prophets
looking to make a profit, some of us tend to lean towards the latter
extreme.
Blavatsky had to put some people in their place, herself--especially
those who claimed to know masters when they really didn't (among other
things).
Once you get to know us, some of us play devil's advocate a lot
(especially myself) when we search for a new way to look at something.
