For what level or kind of audience was the book written to?
I have read the book just once and it did not downgraded HPBīs reputation or
importance to me. I also think that the editor only gave a brief explanation
about the nature of the incidents quoted in the book.
Maybe Aveline expected a kind of book with footnotes saying something like
"the letter/document above is false" or "the latter above could not be
proved to be authentic".
I consider the coments by Aveline very arrogant and do not represent the aim
of the book, maybe he didnīt understand the purpose of the the work.
