There is really no way of telling from here. It is my opinion that High
Blood Pressure is a vitamin B deficiency disease. Many authorities say that
you can get all the vitamins you need from the food that we eat. I don't
agree with that. (especially with my diet). What helps or hurts me, might
affect you differently. You have to read the Health Food Books, and
literature, and see what seems reasonable to you, and try things out a
little at a time.
When you go to a doctor, they will try out one drug for a time, monitor what
effect that has on the condition, and increase or decrease the dose, or try
something else. You have to do the same, as only you knows your body best.
One of the best books that I have come across is AGING WITHOUT GROWING OLD
by Judy Lindberg McFarland, 1997, Western Front Ltd., ISBN 1-888848-08-1. I
believe that there is another later edition than the one that I have. The
mother of the author started a chain of Health Food Stores in the Los
Angeles Area, originally catering mostly to weight lifters, and body
builders in Venice, California in the 1940s or 50s. The author's son, an MD
checked and approved the text in the book. I don't know whether you can get
the book in the part of the world that you live in. But there probably are
plenty of similar books in the health stores near you.
In one part of the book, a chapter on high blood pressure, there is a list
of things to try if you have high blood pressure.
cut back on sugar, salt, caffeine, and alcohol.
reduce or eliminate red meat in the diet.
500 mg of calcium, twice a day.
400 mg of magnesium, twice a day.
one tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day
400 IU of vitamin E a day
30 mg of coenzyme Q10, three times a day.
one hawthorn berry capsule, three times a day.
one ginseng capsule, twice a day.
I eat mostly fruit and vegetables, and only have meat once or twice a month,
but you need meat for Vitamin B-12, so I take B-12 in a tablet form every
other day. I get the calcium in generic calcium carbonate - anti-acid
tablets, 4 per day.
I get magnexium and zinc and potassium in pill form. They are needed to
assimilate the calcium, and I am lactose intollerant, so I can't get it in
milk or cheese. Vit. E, thins the blood, so I take it instead of aspirin, 2
400 IU capsules a day, morning and evening. I found that my atrial
fibulation, (irregular heartbeat) decreased dramatically after I started
taking 30 mg of coenzyme Q10 twice a day, morning and evening. I take the
Hawthorne capsule, once a day. Hawthorne (used to be called Huckleberry) is
supposed to strengthen the heart muscle and have beneficial effects on the
heart and associated systems - and lowers blood pressure. I don't like the
taste of the ginseng, either in capsule form, or in tea, -it is bitter to
me- so I don't take it.
So, read up on these things, and if you think it is worth while, try them,
and monitor the results over time, to see whether to stick with them or not.
You can get a good quantity of potassium by eating a banana. But read up on
them before you try them out. You are the only one who can tell if any of
this helps you.
Niacin is Vitamin B-3. If you try this, there is a "no flush" form that most
people prefer. The niacin will relax the blood vestles, and cause heat in
places where there are a lot of small vestles. Some people don't like this
effect.

Agree completely Dennis. I also suffer from high blood pressure, would
niacin help?
Cheers

My doctor wanted to give me drugs for chloresterol, but I told her that I
would prefer to take Niacin, a B vitamin. My chloresterol went down 100
points after a month. She then told me that I should take less Niacin and
the reading went back up 20 or 30 points, so we compromised, and I went
back
to the Niacin, only not as much, and the reading went back to about 150,
and
she was satisfied. She said that she thought that there was no way the
reading would go down with vitamins, and that she would let me take it and
prove her right, but my body convinced her that she was wrong.
After a few years with her, she is becoming quite knowledgeable about
vitamins and health concerns now. She knows a lot about death, and
disease,
and drugs, and I am more interested in health - especially my own.
After a few months on Niacin, I changed to a no-flush form of Niacin,
which
has the benefits, but not the occasional flushing around the joints, and
around skin disruptions.
