David,
Concerning your remarks about "it is difficult to starve to death in
five days", the greatest concern is for victims of the flood
(especially children, the elderly and the sick) going 3 to 5 days
WITHOUT WATER in the humid heat of New Orleans.
Ask Shepard Smith of Fox News to explain to you the plight of the
hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of victims stranded for days
without water or food in this heat. Ever hear about dehydration,
heat exhaustion and heat strokes??

Most of the remaining New Orleans' citizens did,or were forced to
do, this and were waiting for relief to arrive. Some were sleeping
on the ground because no housing was available. Despite what some
of list members have said, it is difficult to starve to death in
five days. No matter where one goes there will always be some who
take advantage of disasters of any kind. Assuming personal
responsibility for one's destiny is not exclusively a right-wing
idea as one list member suggested.
