Sorry, I was wrong. The master actually revokes the ability some other way.
You will never lose self-taught techniques because you, yourself
learned it; it can't be erased from your mind. However, when your
master grants you abilities, they are not "learned", per se. It is
granted knowlege of sorts, that is not part of you, and can be taken
back.
