Let's not get carried away my friend. I saw lots of people
living
right ON the railroad tracks when I was there.

I live in the United States in one of the largest cities. In
spite of being the richest country in the world, I have seen
many homeless living under the highway underpass. So the
homeless by themselves does not say anything about the
standard of living of the rest of the population.

Years ago, in Chennai, the local government built apartments
to house homeless and homeless were very happy to get the
apartment. After getting the apartments, most did not move
into them and live comfortably. They rented the apartments
and continued to live on road side or slums and used the
money earned for drugs and liquor. The slum dwellers were
quite happy with the situation. They did not complain about
the slums!
