I all my years of work with the human energy field, I have only encountered
one case of someone damaged by kundalini and that was artificially induced by a
large energy field from an orgone device gone berserk.
I know of no case where someone was damaged by meditation. My feeling on
this is that what occurs is a combination of diet and altitude, the lack of
certain nutriments does seriously affect the brain and lack of oxygen does it no
good as well. Combine that with lack of sleep, and certain obsessive
personality traits and yes, you can get a real mess.
These symptoms were assumed to be caused by kundalini, but in fact they have
a purely physiological origin. The reason we do not see such things in the
west is largely due to the fact that meditators also tend to be very careful
about diet, almost compulsively so, and they work at near sea level, so the brain
gets lots of oxygen.
Now, if you combine the physiological factors with a teaching floating around
that says, "If you do this you will go mad," the implantation of that in the
subconscious predisposes folk to such a response, even if they consciously
have the good sense to reject it. The moment the physiological factors kick in,
the subconscious programming from their society does the rest.
