Re: Theos-World Baird T. Spalding

Hallo Cass and all,

My views are:

It seems to me, that
Theosophy does not deny, that man is divine
since it teaches AtmaVidya -
ie. the teachings of the Upanishads.
So it must be that kind of Theosophy
which ignores the AtmaVidya teachings
which he was referring to.

I have to say, that I havn't found
any evidence in any of his books
on, that he was against Theosophical
teachings - quite on
the contrary.

Maybe it is an interpretation
made by the author of the website.

Hi Morten
you wrote
He believed that the teaching of life was very simply and therefore, he
was an opponent to Mysticism and Theosophy and those Christian Sects who
denied that man was Divine. He said that the people he knew in Eastern said,
it was a heresy to accept man less than Divine.
"The person seeing perfection is the Master." - Baird T. Spalding "

Cass: This doesnt seem to make sense to me, as Theosophy has always said that man is Divine. So this statement seems to be contradictory. I was not able to read any on his work without joining,so I only read the splurge at the front. I thought he must have been special, as I did read, that he dematerialized, and materialized many miles away. This suggested to me that he would have been higher than an initiate. Guess you cant judge a web site by its cover.

We should not forget this from the website:

" Baird T. Spalding was kind and simple man who lived a simple life. He was
always moving and could travel 1000 miles to do a favour for a friend. He
spent most time of his life as an research mining engineering. His work
seems to have made him rich, becuse he was always willing to give away money
if somebody needed. One thing Mr. Spalding didn't need much for himself
was - sleep, only three-four hours each night.

Early, Douglas DeVorss (the founder of DeVorss & Company, Publisher P.O. Box
550 Marina del Rey, CA 90294) and Baird T. Spalding agreed that Mr. Spalding
never was to be introduced as an Master, but only as an author, but never
the less Mr. Spalding made some extraordinary doings.

One very remarkable thing happened in New York (USA) when he was visting a
friend. Spalding was to lecturing in Montreal (Canada) the same afternoon.
At 5.00 his friend asked him if it was not time for him to leave. -"No, Its
not until 7:30, and I have plenty of time." It was not until 6.00 he said
goodbye and left. His friend was very nervous, because she new that he
hardly have time to get ready and go to the airport, much less Montreal! She
waited until just before the time for his leacture and then phoned
Montreal. - "Please tell me." she said "has Baird Spalding arrived yet? The
woman who answered said, "Why, he's walking up on the platform right now."

Baird T. Spalding's teaching was a mixture of taoism, early hinduism,
buddhism and christianity.
He believed that the teaching of life was very simply and therefore, he was
an opponent to Mysticism and Theosophy and those Christian Sects who denied
that man was Divine. He said that the people he knew in Eastern said, it was
a heresy to accept man less than Divine.

Maybe Spadling was an opponent towards the kind of Theosophy,
which craves for emotionalism. There some branches, that do so.

Yes, I think it is important to check out these people as many have more
seeds of truth, in a 20th century perspective, as did Idries Shah.

Dear Morten,
This site has certainly inspired me, especially interested in learning
about Spalding and Sri Aurobindo. The ancient wisdom does seem to
continue and verifies that when the student is ready the teacher will be
provided, even if it through the internet.

Yeah...

The jokers website is not active for the time being.
Try google for it - and then perhaps hit the link beneath the
searchresult
named "Cached".
The photo can also be found by googling for it.

The fellow behind the website is from Sweden and a bit of a Hermes freak
or
something.

Else try
http://devorss.com/spalding.htm
They have some of the info on their website.
Else you can read the volume 6 of his "Life and Teachings of the Masters
of
the Far East" for more info.
In it there is a short biographical about Spalding.

Just let me know if you have trouble with that.
