Mental Health issues - ancient meets modern

For another avenue, consider looking at EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and similar processes emerging today in the new field of Energy Psychology.

It often works more quickly than the more established things, and is grounded in timeless knowledge (subtle energies, meridians, accupressure, directed awareness etc) in a context of modern research. It requires no drugs and is compatible with, and can facilitate, other established things like counselling, coaching and psychotherapy. EFT works well with a wide range of problems including phobias, addictions, emotional trauma, and even helps good ol' meditation, where it can settle the wayward mind faster than just telling it to be quiet.

The story of how the precursor of EFT (TFT - Thought Field Therapy) was discovered is remarkable. In brief, a psychologist Dr Roger Callahan had been trying to help a woman, Mary, with a severe phobia of water, for 18 months with little success. He had also been studying meridians and ways to assess the energy levels in them, when he decided one day while she was in the throes of talking about it, to reach over and tap gently on a point under her eye connected with the stomach meridian. She looked at him suddenly and said "It's gone!". She answered his disbelief by going out and splashing water from the swimming pool onto her face in delight. This stunning result set Dr Callahan off on a search to find what was going on and how to apply it, which he eventually codified into TFT.

With EFT/TFT, you don't have to know how it works (people are trying to figure it out, and have their theories) and you don't even have to believe in it, for it to work. I've seen a smoking addiction dismantled in 20 minutes with skillful application of EFT to the several contributing issues. It needed just one follow up treatment to tidy up loose ends, and that was 10 months ago with no return of the problem since. It helps quite a range of physical problems too, probably because of the close interaction between mind and body. I've seen the range of motion of a woman's wrist damaged in an accident, resistant to other approaches, widened from 45 degrees to 80 and the searing pain dissolved, in about 8 minutes of EFT addressed to both the physical and emotional aspects.

As always, seek the assistance of a professional. A small but growing number of them are becoming aware of this stuff and think it's a hot addition to their toolkit.

Note especially the success with victims of trauma from "ethnic cleansing" in Kosovo
near the bottom of page 1, using TFT. EFT is just as effective, but is simpler.

Here's a very brief excerpt of just one of the topics discussed on
just one of the pages available:

I have written this page in an effort to give you an overview of
anxiety and anxiety disorders. [etc]
