The symptoms described are a lot different from serious mental
illness. They are better associated with seizures, since anxiety
disorders are usually from unwarranted mental activity, rather than a
psychotic state. There's a huge difference between the two.

Often, counselling and medication does not help the conditions. Very
rarely a SSRI (selective seritonine re-uptake inhibitor) will help a
person for years, but it's effect will eventually fade. Benzodiazepams
(like valium and xanax) will often help because they slow the activity
in the brain. But they are addictive and not a suitable permanent
treatment.

The symptoms go away after a month, sometimes after 40 years; depends
on the person. No one really has any solid evidence what cures them,
but scientists are urging that it's because of a chemical imbalance.
There is evidence against this though. Such as how correcting the
chemical imbalance temporarily helps the problem, but does not cure
it.
