PBS Journey to Planet Earth (US)

For those of you who receive the american PBS (Public Broadcasting System), try to catch "Journey to Planet Earth". Maybe your station will repeat tonight's episode, which I considered to be excellent. Part Two will be next Monday evening, and might be repeated on some stations.

When they talked about how we're using our water supplies faster than they can regenerate, it reminded me of a major plot element of "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress" by Robert A. Heinlein, (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/asin/0312863551/ref=nosim/recommendations) where the misguided government agencies were forcing the Moon farmers to use up the moisture on the Moon without replenishing it, and not believing the scientists who tried to explain that either they needed to replace the water that was being taken out of the ecosystem, or face disaster down the road.

In the same way that we try to be stewards of our learning, we need to be stewards of our resources. It was interesting to see what is happening in other parts of the world.

Sorry to get off topic, but I thought it was good enough to recommend for those of you who can get it.

John
