The Search for Truth comes from the Broken Heart

Leonard Cohen says that only when the heart is broken or worn down
from living in the known will it seek to find meaning, order in the
disharmony and in the uncomfortableness it feels in the world. All
of its belief systems have been broken down or shown to be
hypocritical and false.
It is their discomfort, their suffering, that drives them to seek
new paths to truth. They seek for something to give meaning to
their life.
That we should never judge other paths, as those paths, in whatever
form give sustenance to that searching soul. That the path of
hedonism is taken by those souls who are most courageous and brave
as they will go where many will not and will risk eventual
annihilation. Many of these souls, through understanding the depths
of selfishness that man is capable of, clearly understand that
selfishness cannot lead to anything except greater selfishness and
isolation in the long term and will eventually find salvation. Some
do not and there fate is sealed.
Cass: When such a soul finds a new truth, a new way of looking
at "being" feels truly elated, and then discovers that the new truth
they have embraced, is built on sand, could this notlead to the path
of hedonism? When a soul finally finds some truth that resounds
with them in some teaching, and then discovers that their truth came
from a dubious source that soul is tempted to throw out the good
with the bad. Many souls may throw up their arms in despair and
say "what's the point?" they have all got it wrong. To remain true
to a teaching that has dubious teachers,(misinterpreters of the
truth) requires of a soul great perseverence and trust in the
original teachings and great honesty on the part of those that are
preserving the doctrine as "the truth".
