To make gold like Alchemists did it I think one should follow
this very simple plan.
1. Heat a piece of lead over 2000' C (or even more) without 
the air access.
2. Then make it open to the air and let the oxygen that's in
the air to turn your lead into gold.

The secret is that oxygen and lead won't make an oxide Pb2O.
Oxigen will break lead and you will get Gold and Heavy water.
