And the chief purpose of a Lodge is always the fulfillment of the three
objects of the TS. In the early days, some lodges were chartered for
the study of special subjects, such as the Astrological Lodge of the TS,
founded by Alan Leo, and the Buddhist Lodge of the TS. But they
eventually separted from the TS and became independent entities. I
think this brings us back to the question: what subjects are appropriate
to the three objects? Which subjects are not?

Perry,
You ask some great questions, thanks for your comments. Well my personal
"opinion" is a Theosophical Society Lodge or Center should not be a "Psychic
Fair" which is a very popular thing here in the USA, many are scheduled, usually
week-ends at leased facilities and get good traffic of both curious and
serious individuals. They can walk the booths and investigate all the "New Age"
idiosyncracies and practices collecting bags full of flyers and business cards
and such. All this is "Off the Purpose Lines of the intent of a Theosophical
Lodge Center even though the topics may be subjects of Guest Lectures and Members
may have proclivities of interest individually amongst themselves. It seems to
me that the "Charter" is the determinator that defines the Purpose.
