Cass, No, I don't think it was a metaphor, at the time I learned of this I 
was involved with the Mahayana Ch'an in No. Cal. up at Talmidge near Ukiah, thye 
have a Monastery and University there, My Lay Vow Master was Tripitaka Master 
Hsuan Hua the Abbot of the Monastery, the Great Bed Ceremony is mentioned in 
one of his books.

As to Barborka's Book, no it details at length the methods of 
precipitation, how transmission I composed, sent, and received in many various forms for 
various purposes. Also, the various mode, via's, and a great deal of other 
explanatory material dealing with the Dalai and Tashi lama's, Tulku (Skywalkers), 
chapters on Madame Blavatrskys writings, Writings by means if Instruction, 
Writtings by means of dictation,, Qrittings by mmeans of Directive 
Clairvoyance,Writtings by mreans of Psychrometry, Writtings by means of Precipitations(66 
pages), Writtings by means analogous to Tulku, On tulku and Avesa, H.P.B. on 
Tulku, An Exposition on Tulku, plus Illustrations and Facsimiles. Bibliography, 
tibetan language Helps, and an exhaustive Index, Yet it is never mentioned on 
this Forum,lol!
