Ideological commitment levels and desire to learn

Following up where I left off--

Whether or not these are independent variables could be measured by
social science methods. An absurdly simple model would be a
questionnaire measuring "How confident are you in your belief system?"
on a 10 point scale from "not at all" to "entirely, without a doubt."
One could also measure "How interested are you in acquiring new
information on this subject?" My observation is that those who rank
very high in the first dimension tend to rank low on the second; this
is just as true of so-called skeptics as of believers. But the
converse is not necessarily true.
