Dear Doss,

Glad you found the story of interest. TUP also rejected the ms., as
did PLP, and none of the Theosophical publishers provided a single
word of substantive (i.e. historical) criticism. Yet there was a
significant difference in how they responded. Although offering no
commentary on the research and conclusions, Sarah Belle Dougherty did
provide excellent criticism of an early ms. focusing on stylistic
issues, upon request by Grace Knoche for a reader's report. I found
her commentary very helpful in revising the ms. PLP provided no
criticism associated with the rejection, but at least did not attack
the book after having rejected the manuscript.

Something about the organizational personality in the Adyar TS
involves historical dishonesty; while other Theosophical groups might
not exemplify the best ways of dealing with their history I don't
think they are willfully evasive and misleading.

Paul
