Books that give Overview and Needed Perspective on Theosophy & related subjects

As I work on my list of books that give overview
and needed perspective on Theosophy and related
subjects, I am really impressed with the following
book:

Ancient Wisdom Revived: A History of the
Theosophical Movement
By Bruce F. Campbell
Hardcover/Univ of California Pr/July 1980/0520039688

The Campbell book only contains about 250 pp. but I don't
know of a comparable title that gives so much
information in 250 pp.

It appears to me that this book should be required
reading for every student of Theosophy.

Now I know the book contains mistakes [see Gregory
Tillett's book review for examples] and I question
some of the conclusions the author makes but as an
OVERVIEW of the Theosophical Movement I can't think
of another volume that does a comparable job this
volume does. [A.B. Kuhn's book on Theosophy comes to my
mind as a competitor but the Campbell book is more
concise and up-to-date.]

The book is now out-of-print but many used copies
are available. To purchase the volume, see:
