Think about this. The biggest problem politicians have is getting past the
mute button. The pundits made a big deal out of Kerry's speech and Obama's
speech, but only 18 million people in the US watched any of the Democrats'
convention and Obama's speech never even made it to the broadcast network audience.
The reality is that no one is listening except the believers of either party
and those few who find such things interesting.
So they have to factor that in. Bush has started to use some different
dialectical things in his speeches, such as dropping his g's to appeal to the
cultural tastes of his audience. Kerry has done some similar things.
But political speech has only one goal, to motivate likely supporters and
confuse everyone else. It is primarily a disguise to cover what the politician
really has in mind and that applies to both candidates.
