It may be of some corroborating interest that assuming this
phenomenon by HPB was real I have heard this same music myself and
can therefore sonfirm independently that this does happen. I cannot
explain it, but I have heard it.

I was at a Zen monastery in California in the sumemr of 1988. Even
though it was a rural setting with no electrical power there seemed
to be this amazing music playing during daylight hours and ending at
sundown. It sounded like some kind of Oriental stringed instrument,
probably a harp, and consisted of chords, all different, and all the
same length, separated by a few moments of silence. I thought to
find the musicians but never figured out where they were. Because of
the nature of sesshin I did not ask, social interactions being
discouraged.

Finally, I caught a ride to L.A. and realized after getting there
that I had forgotten to ask the abbot who and where were the
musicians, since I heard their music the whole time I was there but
never saw them. I had the telephone number of the monastery, so
thought to just call Jitsodu later and ask. Perhaps it would be
possible to get it on tape, since it was altogether unlike anything
else I had ever heard. Then, the following morning, when I arose to
go to Century City, I heard the music again, despite the fact I was
well over 100 miles from the monastery. That is when I realized the
music was not earthly in origin.

Entering meditation and asking my Higher Self what was the meaning of
this experience I was told that I had petitioned Kwan Yin for
enlightenment the whole time I was in sesshin and thought there had
been no result, not realizing that all of us are surrounded by
miracles all the time and do not appreciate them. It occurred to me
later that celestial music is traditionally said to be harp music,
which suggests others must have heard this same thing before.

The strains were not faint, though, so by opening a window HPB might
simply have let in sounds of some local orchestra which was far
enough away that it could just be barely heard. If she was wearing
too much perfume the wind coming in from the window might have blown
it into the faces of the people sitting in the room.

What do you think, Bart?
