Dave you have written a wonderful essay here (not included--find at
RSS), but let me make it even better:
But what an atheist you are. Why this diatribe about humans not
being human? We are spiritual beings having a human experience--
don't you know that by now? I came back from meditation with a
similar thought however. It was how former Jews have taken Humanity
from God (Judaism) to science (physics). One of the first Nobel
prizes for particle physics was awarded to a Jew. But I bet he is
not a practicing Jew, but probably an atheist like yourself. Thus
your thesis is correct we do have much in common with our brother,
we are all related.
Now, before you get yourself all crunched up, you mention the role
of Saligram (HPB's former pupil) and how he started RS. And I could
see how this Sikh started RS with the spiritual blessing of HPB. I
have always said that it came from Theosophy and this is the
importance of Julian Johnson who wrote one of its MOST well read
books: Path of the Masters, in which he comes off as anti-Semitic. I
think the root of it is simple: it is a struggle for God's pat on
the head, the recognition of being "The Chosen."
So all of Christiandom is fighting with Islam and with Judaism for
that special place in God's bosom. The Jews are in a high place
because being the purveyors of one the world's first great
religions, they got the nod from God early on. And I think they have
simply moved on (not all but as an oversoul) to the heights of
science.
For those who think I am not indebted to their work, they are crazy.
Because no one, I mean no one can read any textbook or physics
material without finding some Jewish scientist behind it beginning
of course with Einstein. My prejudice against them is simple: their
extreme materialism is really my bone of contention. That is the
honest-to-God truth. And think about it people--there is nothing
more material than science. This fact means that we are all
materialists at heart, because are all indebted to science and to
technology.
But with the work of an obscure black woman (Netemara) and the work
of the scientists of the world we will come full circle and all join
hands around the burnt-out canyons of Meggido and sing "Free at
last, thank God we are free at last!"
