Interesting thatyouwould say that. Thre was a fellow on the radio
who wrote a book called (I believe) THE LAST DAYS which is a survey
of all the nut cults who expect the world to end. Their belief
system, according to him, is that there will be a final showdown
between Jews and Arabs in the Mideast, which is quite likely, and
that 2/3 of theJews will be wiped out, which is also quite likely,
and that the remainder will throw away their prayer shawls anc
convert to Fundamentalist Christianity. That anyone would respond to
a disaster of that magnitude in that manner is worse than
preposterous, but such is the fantasy, Anyway, it is this belief
which part of the cause for their support for Israel.

The fact that some people think their fantasy of the last days needs
an assist makes me wonder if the terrorism we keep hearing about is
motivated by some idea that the Mahdi wil appear if someone somehow
touches off a conflagration. Historical precedents for the idea that
a single violent act could lead to a massive uproar can be seen in
the assassination of the archduke Ferdinand (which supposedly ignited
WWI) and the shooting of a German diplomat in Paris, which is
supposed to have motivated Krystallnacht.
