Who Knows?

Here's something I heard from a wise teacher at a ULT Lodge some 40 years
ago. It seems like a good idea to pass on to students of theosophy who might
find it useful to follow its guidance.
Knowings
He who knows not,
and knows not that he knows not,
is a fool -- Avoid him!
He who knows not,
and knows that he knows not,
will learn -- Teach him!
He who knows,
and knows not that he knows,
is asleep -- Wake him!
He who knows,
and knows that he knows,
is a Sage -- Learn from him!

Unfortunately, with respect to these on-line e-mail forums, its easy to
forget this wise advice (which I confess doing myself), and sometimes getting
caught up in pointless discussions based on opinionated conceptions, emotions or
personal pique, that either repeat themselves over and over, or lead nowhere
that's helpful to anyone... (Other than, perhaps, to those usually quiet
observers who can cull out the wheat from the chaff and begin to know who knows and
who doesn't. :-) After a while, those wise ones may also get to know when to
hit the delete button before opening mail (unless they are following a
particular thread).
BTW, gratuitous agreements or expressions of personal thanks without any
pertinent comments might best be sent as personal mail rather than to open forum
-- which might help eliminate the clogging of our mailboxes and/or taking our
time to open and read inconsequential letters.
