Dear Friends:

Re: Current exchanges on racism, Aryanism, Anti-Semitism, etc.

One of the most important teachings theosophy advances is REINCARNATION.

The EGO [SPIRITUAL RAY, WISDOM, THINKER] in man, the "experiencer and
thinker" has no "race," or "sex." Heredity of the physical level has
to do with the karma of a long train of "past lives."

While we may deplore discussions of racism, prejudice, fanaticism
because of their lack of any sound logic, the teachings of THEOSOPHY
ought to resonate in our minds and hearts. 1. The Brotherhood of all
beings and humans. 2. Karma, the universal and unprejudiced teacher and
guide. 3. Reincarnation, the process of everyone experiencing all
conditions.

In any case, UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD is prime object of THEOSOPHY. It is
logical and based on the indestructibility of the atomic nature -- its
consciousness and intelligence in addition to its indestructibility.
Racism is a serious error. It is something instilled into us at an
early age -- a kind of "family feud." It is mindless, illogical and
also merciless. Everyone knows this is irredeemable, senseless hatred.
So the average "good person" deplores it. And if he or she has courage,
they say this openly.

Even our "personality" if left uninfected, has no innate, or particular
likes or dislikes for persons. In fact the common feeling of
companionship, affection and love prevails at first in all encounters.

Consider the grand view offered by THEOSOPHY -- an "ocean" of living
beings -- "atoms," from our physical point of view, where "existence as
form" merges into the less tangible "fields of force" of the electron,
the ion, and the sub-atomic family of component forces that are the
substratum of the life of such an atom. Why they are there, and how
Nature organizes such a multitude of connections remains to be explained
-- suffice, it exists and supports the vast net-work of life in all
beings of whatever kind of diversity.

And what are We? Intelligences. Thinkers. Seekers for meaning? What
particular "drop of the OCEAN" are we? How are we going to "name" or
"label" our "drop?" How are we going to classify (wherever located)
fairly, other brother and sister "drops?"

Physically we can locate this body of ours, and its heredity to some
extent. But even physically (right now) we are continually changing as
we breathe, eat, drink and move around -- we exchange atoms and
molecules, thoughts, feelings, sensations and ideas, from others and our
environment all the time. -- we, the "focus of our consciousness," and
the "center of our memory," present a more stable and longer
"time-base." But all the rest changes constantly.

Theologically, we all are said to merge back into an original prime
couple -- so all races, tribes, exiles and invaders -- all -- are,
conceptually, said to be physiologically related to some degree. The
labeling and the classifying into groups and sub-groups is fruitless and
really satisfies none. According to this, as an instance, "racism" is
ridiculous.

I strongly object to the occasional endeavour to place THEOSOPHY and H P
B in any relation to Nazi-ism -- simply because the term "Aryan" (Irian,
Iranian, meaning 'noble') is an ancient term designating races with an
antiquity going back nearly a million years (says the SECRET DOCTRINE )
-- it has been misused -- and those who are familiar with THEOSOPHY
know this and can point to it. [S D I 115fn, 382-3, 444, 614; II
266fn, 328, 395, 425-9, 470-1, 768-9, ]

The issue of racism has nothing to do with THEOSOPHY, but we cannot
prevent those who know hardly anything of it (beyond the name and
adverse opinions current about it) from occasionally bandying their
ignorance about.

Best wishes,

Dallas
