PS-- Rereading some of those posts, I will retract my agreement with
Bart that one or two negative individuals ruined things. They did
*for me* but I think that the convention initiatives flopping and
Nathan resigning from the TS and the reelection of John Algeo killed
the reform movement. That's just guesswork and I'd be curious to
hear from an eyewitness.
I was talking about AFTER the failure of the initiatives. Was there any
opposition to John Algeo floated by ACT? Actually, looking back through
the archives, the board specifically went out of their way NOT to
endorse any given candidate.
I couldn't find the initiatives in Eldon's collection, but, if I recall
correctly, they were worded in such a way as to preclude their being
adopted, even the reasonable ones. I know I discussed this at the Annual
Meeting with Sy, Chuck, Nathan, and several other interested parties.
I really expected ACT to continue afterwards. I thought they had some
good ideas, but were tainted with hate, some of them at targets who did
nothing whatsoever to deserve that level of hatred.
