I coudn't resist ribbing you a little bit. If it is any consolation,
I did some consulting work in the Washington area years ago and was
surprised when a Chinese fellow who lived there said he thought he
lived in a "northern" city. One of his co workers explained that the
city is south of the Mason-Dixon line, which astonished him. Most
people do not keep up on things which do not concern them in their
daily lives. Unless you are a truck driver geography tends not to be
that relevant to the business of making a living.
It is hard to believe, but a lot of people in the world not only do
now know the name of the capital of Uzbekhistan, but do not know the
maiden name of the wife of the fire chief's second cousin. So much
for the effectiveness of our geography teachers.
So here is a test for the geographically challenged:
Question number one: "Which direction is the North Pole?" (Is it
north or south?)
(This is NOT a trick question. Assume Euclidean space.)
Bonus question: Does your answer mean we live north or south of the
pole?
