THE SOUND OF A SMELL

A group of Lao Tse's disciples were discussing Lao-tze's latest
aphorism::

"Those who say do not know. Those who know do not say;"

Then the Master entered their classroom and they asked him what he had
meant.

He asked them: "Who of has smelled the fragrance of a rose?"

All of them said they had.

"Now," said he: "Now, put it into words."

They all fell silent. For, what is the sound of a perfume?
