Dear Friend:

What is the problem with these quotes by HPB ? Please help me with a
repeat of your query if my answers are inadequate.

As I see it, HPB is telling us that "Occult Science" covers the moral
aspects of physical science to a depth that it does not consider.

We tend to follow the educational trend impressed on us in childhood.
We are enamored of mechanisms and do not ask about their moral impact.

LEARNING HOW TO LEARN : demands that we think, and that is always a self
imposed effort and discipline.

Our one great problem is that we are prone to accept "authorities." We
need to always ask the 5 questions: WHO, WHERE, WHY, WHEN HOW. And we
need to make sure the answers are fundamental and not superficial. It
is a struggle to make our minds do this. But, we have to take the
position that we are the RULER of our own MIND.

As I see it, we need to think about CAUSES. What causes our world?
What causes the Universe? WHAT ARE THE LAWS that unite and regulate all
acting and living bodies of whatever kind?

If we are going to compare THEOSOPHY with modern Science we have to have
a thorough knowledge of both. This cannot be given to us. we have to
study and generate such a knowledge -- one we can trust -- for
ourselves.

Best wishes,

Dallas

--------------------------------------

SECRET DOCTRINE I 298

"It is barely possible that the minds of the present generations are not

quite ripe for the reception of Occult truths. Such will be the
retrospect
furnished to the advanced thinkers of the Sixth Root Race of the history
of
the acceptance of Esoteric Philosophy -- fully and unconditionally.
Meanwhile the generations of our Fifth Race will continue to be led away
by
prejudice and preconceptions.

Occult Sciences will have the finger of scorn pointed at them from every
street corner, and everyone will seek to ridicule and crush them in the
name, and for the greater glory, of Materialism and its so-called
Science. The Addendum which completes the present Book shows, however,
in an anticipatory answer to several of the forthcoming Scientific
objections, the true and mutual positions of the defendant and
plaintiff.

The Theosophists and Occultists stand arraigned by public opinion, which

still holds high the banner of the inductive Sciences. The latter have,
then, to be examined; and it must be shown how far their achievements
and
discoveries in the realm of natural laws are opposed, not so much to our

claims, as to the facts in nature..."
	S.D. I page 298

And the second one:

SECRET DOCTRINE II 214

"Were it light alone, inactive and absolute, the human mind could not
appreciate nor even realise it. Shadow is that which enables light to
manifest itself, and gives it objective reality. Therefore, shadow is
not
evil, but is the necessary and indispensable corollary which completes
Light
or Good: it is its creator on Earth."
	S.D. II page 214

---------------------------------------------

DTB I would comment:

In this the need for contrast is shown.

Evil is always a distortion of "good."

Good is the set of Universal LAWS that rule all. Nature established
them ages ago. We fail to see the importance of reincarnation and karma
-- how they affect our lives and civilizations. In return Nature
provides us with the effects of this kind of neglect. -- sorrow,
suffering, pain, disease, cataclysms of various kinds, etc...

If we violate them (Universal Laws of harmony and brotherhood) then we
create "EVIL." Selfishness is evil.

Generosity, brotherhood and compassion and obeying all Natural laws is
"good."
