re Jesus and Theosophy, Leon and "exoteric/esoteric"

Quoting from recent posts:

M>Leon, guys, in case you might be interested,
I found this quote in today's post from Dallas:
<<"...in common with Pythagoras and other
hierophant reformers, Jesus
divided his teachings into exoteric and
esoteric."
ISIS II 147>>

M<<If Jesus divided his teachings into those two
categories, then wouldn't that be relevant
enough reason for people on these lists to
try to find some kind of Theosophic
context/meaning for those two
words/concepts ...>>

Leon responded: <<No. It's far more important to find out what those fundamental teachings are that were given esoterically to his disciples and how they differ from those
superficial exoteric teachings given out to the unwashed and illiterate
multitudes -- rather than hack away at the meaning of the words that categorize them. >>

That's about what I said, meant to say, believe it or not, when I referred to "Theosophic context/meaning." But thanks for the qualifiers, though. Seems I can't make enough sense any which way. Either I get criticized and/or laughed at about my "exessive" qualifiers, or I get corrected and qualified if I skip a few qualifiers. What's going on out there? ^:-/

<<Theosophists aren't ethnologists or philologists. But, they are scientists and philosophers and interested in finding out the fundamental truths for themselves -- not the details behind descriptions of their categories.>>

How "scientists and philosophers" are defined "more specifically" might be a somewhat relevant point to make here---and I suspect that such defining might benefit from a few keyish qualifiers, incidentally, generally speaking, and especially in any kind of "Theosophic context," I suspect, whether or not your "unwashed and illiterate multitudes" are addressed or much interested. And if we all tend to define "keyish" in our various ways, what does that tell people, one might wonder ...

<<That certainly is a waste of time and energy and teaches us nothing -- which you have amply demonstrated.
Best wishes, Leon>>

Oh ... Thanks for your comments, Leon.

Speculatively,
Mauri
