Dear Tony:
Re: Changes made in reprinting SECRET DOCTRINE and The VOICE OF THE
SILENCE
Since those who made and printed those "changes" are dead we can only
speculate as to their reasons.
One of the immediate effects is to change any embedded codes made in the
originals.
Next:
VOICE: In the case of the New York edition of 1893 edited by
Judge, I believe it was said this was done so as to bring the
explanations HPB had placed in a Glossary at the end of the 1st printing
up to the pages in which those words were printed - so as to help
students become easily aware of their significance.
Some corrections were also made in regard to Sanskrit words and sources,
and have been duly noted by scholars.
As I recall, H P B had given Judge the authority earlier to do such
things if he deemed them necessary.
Best wishes,
Dallas

You write:
<<<If we look at the same documents we ought to be able to arrive at
agreement.>>> ???
Let's take some orignal documents that we can lay our hands on.
Take a copy of the ORIGINAL "The Secret Doctrine" and compare it to the
third edition edited by Annie Besant (and Mead), and note a few of the
differences in the two editions, and see what effect those alterations
have on the meaning.
Take a copy of the ORIGINAL "The Voice of the Silence" and compare it to
the edition edited by W Q Judge, and note a few of the differences in
the two editions, and see what effect those alterations have on the
meaning.
What was it that CAUSED those changes to be made, and what are the
resulting EFFECTS?
Best wishes
Tony
