May I break in?

One observes that Theosophy is a report on the laws and functions
of nature and not the whims or desires of persons, no matter
whom.

As such, "prayer," if it is generated as a wish or a desire for
any kind of personal benefit, would be either in tune and harmony
with Nature as a whole, or in some way in contravention of the
LAW.

Whether H P B, or a Mahatma, or you or I desire something Karma
will always be produced and no one can operate in concealment
from the ONE LAW of the UNIVERSE.

Once this is grasped the "Personal God" idea disappears. There
are no favorites, or favors to be dispensed. Prayers are useless
spending of energy. In any case why should a just and universal
"God" pay attention to the petty affairs of any one of his
creatures? The whole thing is hopelessly illogical.

This ought to induce a careful research into the nature of our
Universe, Its laws, ourselves, and our goal.

As you suspect, there are those who have a great knowledge of the
Psychic and Astral side of Nature. They can interfere with the
smooth operation of law for personal benefit.

Most good accounts of the use of personal power to manipulate
Natural process, such as rain, speak of the great care of the
operator in selecting time, place and environmental factors
unknown to the average person. This does not obviate the
universal impact of LAW on all concerned. In this the operator
is not exempt.

But, of course there are other views. Are they valid?

Best wishes,

Dallas

I wonder if there might be a form of prayer that even HPB
might not have thought of as being particularly blackish,
in some sense, if she were to take into account the nature
of the one praying and the particulars of the situation.
Seems to me that defining prayers in terms of black or
white only might be ignoring other possibly-relevant
colors or factors: ignoring in the sense that, what is one
persons white or black, in prayer-related terms, might be
(possibly?) another persons ... whatever, so ... That is,
since people are all different, wouldn't somewhat different
evaluative standards apply in how prayer-related colors,
motives, backgrounds are defined?

Was the rain dance of
the north American natives a form of black magic that
might be considered essentially as black as the prayers of
the popes, or ... ?

Personally, I tend to suspect that, in a
sense, some of those natives might've had a lot in common
with the popes, (ie, in a transcultural sense that might
often tend to be downplayed in various cultures).

Besides, doesn't cultural conditioning promote and "okay"
all kinds of things, leaving people (some people?) to try to
think for themselves, so if one grows up in, or is
conditioned by, say, a Theosophic type of culture,
couldn't there be a possibility, in that kind of cultural
environment, of being lulled into some kind ... whatever ,
depending on ... Hmm ...

Speculatively,
Mauri
