Re: speaking of Theosophy
Dear Jesse:
I would suggest a careful reading of the KEY TO THEOSOPHY
(HPB) -- at no time was Theosophy meant to be kept a secret.
[available at http://www.blavatsky.net ]
But, as in all things, discretion and knowledge have to be used.
They are an index of one’s own capacities and abilities. One
does not “force” Theosophy, or Theosophical views into a
conversation. One has to KNOW Theosophy before talking about it.
Read what H P B had to say about the philosophy, and its
history -- and then go to ISIS UNVEILED and The SECRET DOCTRINE,
and follow that with a study of the VOICE OF THE SILENCE -- and,
for the difficult words use the definitions H P B gives in the
THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY -- I suggest this, because there is to be
found the kind of proof available for those who desire to
understand and then speak of Theosophy -- and see the wealth of
material to be learned of, and spoken about. It is for this
reason we call ourselves ”students.”
It soon becomes plain that Theosophy is a RECORDED HISTORY OF
RESEARCH into NATURE’S WORKINGS, and a REPORT ON HER LAWS OF
OPERATION VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE. [ S D I 13-19 -- the 3
FUNDAMENTALS ]
Theosophy is not speculative nor is it the result of theorizing.
It is a record of observations. [see S D I 272-3 -- for a
description of the “Ancient Source”]
The “invisible” is of course (as in mathematics) the theory
behind the visible results. The invisible is the laws,
operations and purposes of KARMA. Karma rules all manifestation,
It causes the rebirth of universes, world and humans -- of all
“forms.” Its objective is to cause all the components of Nature
(the Monads) To Become Conscious Of This As Facts.
The one caution I would interject -- one has to KNOW what
Theosophy teaches -- or else one is not competent enough to
discuss it. Many fall into this kind of trap -- they know only a
superficial smattering of Theosophy. But even so, this does not
prevent one from asking questions, or of offering to others what
they have gleaned about it.
One ought always to be cautious about what one has learned and
test it many times for accuracy.
We are all “students.” None of us are “teachers,” or “leaders.”
The Masters of Wisdom call themselves the “servants” of Humanity.
The universe is pervaded with immortal individualities called:
Monads. The definition of the Monad is: SPIRIT and MATER
eternally intertwined. [S D I 181-2] The progress of these is
always viewed by the 3rd immortal element The MIND. It is this
immortal TRIAD which informs all the forms of matter and causes
them to progress in intelligence.
One of the reasons that I use quotations is to assure inquirers
of the source of Theosophical views. I try to efface myself. I
try to let Theosophy SPEAK to others. Hopefully they will study
and learn for themselves.
Best wishes,
Dallas

Subject: [bn-study] is it right to speak freely of Theosophy
I have a question:
Is it proper to speak freely of theosophy when it seems relevant
to do so in conversation, or is it something that one is to keep
private, like if one were to work for the CIA?
In asking this, I also acknowledge that there is a difference
between proselytizing theosophy and speaking of it when it is
seems appropriate.
So my question is, is there ever an appropriate time to speak of
theosophy? or should it remain "esoteric" or to use another word,
"covert", and spoken of only indirectly (without giving credit to
the word itself)?
In ponderance,
Jesse
