Wednesday, April 09, 2003 Dear Gopi: May I break in ? As I understand it the several types of "yogas" are given out for purpose of the Lower Mind ( Kama-Manas) to understand and to quell arguments. If carried out spiritually, they all resolve back into the ONE. You are right, I think, and Sri Krishna says that those who are proficient in one "Yoga" will also be found proficient in the rest. It is inevitable as he and we are then dealing with SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE or ATMA-VIDYA. If proficient in that then the others are seen as aspects of that ONE and SINGLE vidya-yog. I do realize that in ULT this is a common usage. But I wish to discuss from the point of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Patanjali does not agree with this. There is only one Yoga either one is it or not! From that point there is only one, not many paths. In particular Gnyana Yoga is not one of the paths. In order to be a Gnyana Yogi, one must already be a Karma Yogi (one that is union with his Karma) as well as a Bhakthi Yogi as well as Raja Yogi. Then only one can go on the Gnyana yogi path. A gnyana yogi is not one that is studying the books and so suddenly one becomes a Gnyana Yogi. This misunderstanding is in most of the Theosophical groups. I have a feeling that I might have touched a hornets nest by saying this. Pure reading of the books and discussions might lead one to scholarship in that subject but not be a Yogi. Yogi is one in the Union. Gopi
