Re: Politics and War

Dallas offers:

As far as I can see THEOSOPHY does not offer solutions to these
questions. It offers certain principles for us to consider, and
use if we wish to.

It offers an exposition of the Law of our Universe and Earth --
Principles. And leaves the application to us, who life after
life and day after day as free and self-willed entities, seek to
win our complete freedom from bondage to “bad” Karma, by passing
through every kind of experience. Such situations are a
universal experience, and a part of that testing.

The goal, as I understand it, is to have each Thinker (Mind)
forge its own immortality, so it becomes in fact one with the
REAL UNIVERSAL SELF (ATMAN) -- yet, retains its undivided,
individual identity. It remains as one of the benefactors of the
Earth and Humanity and always provides information (teaching)
that leads to a perception of Ideals and Facts in Life.

However when these personal situations arise they are discussed.

Problems such as these do not relate to the Divine Man (Real
Self) who is the wise reincarnating Ego, but only to the personal
man and his vacillating opinions. The ignorant, personal man is
selfish, tends to isolate itself, and is absolutely amoral. The
Real Self is always a portion of the Universal Divine, and knows
that Universal Law is operative all the time. It seeks to obey
this voluntarily, and promote a knowledge of it, as its
contribution to universal harmony. The Lower Self in its
headlong, short sighted (and careless of results) ignorance,
resents this information being given to possibly rein.
Impatiently, it derides and circumvents considering these facts.
It sneers at those who make the available. But it is incapable
of providing any reasonable rebuttal.

Since these tests of our resolve to become spiritually WISE
arise, the personal man, recognizing its unimportant and
evanescent, illusory nature, seeks to perpetuate them with
arguments that, compared to the nature of the Divine Man, have no
continuity, cohesion to Law or validity.

One cannot kill or destroy the immortal Spirit/Soul. -- the REAL
MAN.

The rest is argument and apology.

That process is conducted by the Lower Mind. It seeks to
justify, or to further embroil itself in selfishness, or, to
secure the approval of others for its opinions. The evil
tendencies in individuals as in nations, seek refuge always under
the mask of righteousness. They do not play on a “level field.”
They do not seek to be well explained.

Further, Theosophy teaches, it is a universal Law, that no one
has the right to kill or hurt another.

Reed has posited possible scenarios that a person’s Karma might
bring.

It is wise to preview these. Make sure that we have identified
the principles involved in providing ideal solutions. Then select
for ourselves in advance if possible, our actions under various
circumstances. determine where the “greater god” may be best
served by us.

No one can tell another what to do. Every choice is personal and
either adds to our Karmic burden or relieves it.

Consider these:

The evil doer always seeks to hide under righteousness.

The evil doer seeks to hide his participation or instigation in
appearances that are virtuous.

All arguments seeking to extend or protect this pretense are
hollow and untrue.

The promises of an evil doer, made to secure compliance, are
always invalid. He is a liar and has no virtue one can rely on.
He is however aware of our virtues and trust, and plays on those
to secure a better advantage for himself.

The abductor who promises to spare the life of mother or child,
plays on the honesty inherent in us -- if we are parents or
relatives -- as it is in all men, while he violates those
principles deliberately with intention to take of them for his
self-advantage alone. He cannot be trusted.

These are a few ideas I have derived from a study of Theosophy:

1 Universality is derived from ONE SPIRIT. Nature is a
synonym for UNIVERSALITY.

2 All beings are perfectible. Perfectibility is by
voluntary study and mind control.

3. Reincarnation of every Mind/Soul is a fact.

4. Universal Law demands equal justice and mercy for all.

5. Brotherhood is a fact in Nature.

Best wishes,

Dallas

We have in the last several weeks laid out a number of positions
on the current political situation and fielded a great many
rebuttals. Can we now step back a pace or two from the harsh
realities of the present once more engage in some meaningful
discussion of the Theosophical perspective of what Reed writes?

Once again I'll allow others to state their ideas before I step
into the discussion directly (unless we go too long without
comment)
