Actually, it's even more convenient. God seems to be everywhere. Every
politician seems to have an exclusive corner on Him. Each has his own mental
icon of deity and can describe Him as an exact match to one's ideas. Each
will gladly tell us that God is on one's side. Especially in battle, both
sides pray to their respective God or Gods and tell everyone they have the
necessary divine backing to win; their victory is preordained. It's hard for
an impartial bystander to tell whose side is being taken.

The idea that a supreme creator of everything would personally interact with
someone, participating in existence on a personal basis with that person by
causing things to happen -- that's extremely more far fetched that the idea
that more advanced individuals, physical or not, might interact with people,
working for others in accordance with the Bodhisattva Vow. 

Of course, when one is joking, it's possible to say anything of a
politician, true or not. The things said of politicians of "the other party"
may become exaggerated in the negative and the things said of politicians of
"the good party" may be too rosy. Gore, the chad stealer, for instance,
could be seen as a heretic to the god of arithmetic, seeking rather to
invoke the intervention of the two-times-out-of-three god, known for
unbounded forgiveness and giving second changes to fair losers. If prayers
aren't sufficient though, the wrath of that god lead to the cure of "no
second chance."
