Theosophy is, if it must be classified, a branch of philosophy, not a
religion. Alice Bailey elevated (or degraded, depending on your point of
view) her Theosophy to a religion. When Blavatsky or the Mahatma letters
are wrong, it is not so terrible to most Theosophists; to most
Theosophists, accepting an incorrect statement just because of who made
it is to go against the whole concept of the various Theosophical
Societies. I do not see the same attitude in Alice Bailey followers. At
best, when I point out major flaws in Alice Bailey's works, I get, "You
may not see it on the surface, but if you study it enough, you'll see
that it is true on deeper levels."
Not that I haven't seen the same attitude in many so-called
Theosophists, who not only insist that Blavatsky was infallible, but go
even farther and state that their own personal interpretation of what
Blavatsky says is infallible.
