Dear Gopi:

It seems to me if we consider Karma that in the whole of Nature
operates for the general benefit, and, if we can fit ourselves
within that set of limits voluntarily, we do not attract “(what
we would call( bad or punitive karma).

But why should it be bad or punitive? Is it not that in our
personal nature we are very wilful our innate freedom is very
self-centered and rather careless of the rights and freedoms of
others. Much of our education has been centered around 2 things:

1. Seek to do what you want providing it can be done secretly --
thus avoiding retribution. [ In other words be irresponsible and
try to get away with it.]

2. If caught, ask for error to be condoned. Play innocent or
ignorant. This if true is sheer hypocrisy.

One ought to ask rather, if one knows what is the RIGHT and the
GOOD, then why not do it? What secret advantages are we
looking for ? Why hide them? Are we afraid of doing publicly
what we would do in secret ? How can we justify that in the
tribunal of freedom we accept as the general norm for cooperative
and interactive life. Why would we give less than is due to
others ?

Now if Theosophy is correct we can hide NOTHING from the
all-seeing eye of Nature (the embodied DEITY, present
everywhere).

Theosophy states that the human stage, where the Mind is a free
creator of the future Karma of the individual, is a probationary
stage: Can we succeed in curbing the absolute power that is
innate in the mind and tailor it to be constructively harmless
and of service to others ?

If we can individually answer these rather hard, straight
questions, we will be on the road to success.

Actually we do not judge. Nature acting through Karma does that.
Living beings reap the consequences. This is universal.

In acting impartially to yourself as to others you are benefiting
your own progress.

Brotherhood demands equity, always. No selfishness. when there
is no selfishness no “bad karma” is created.

We all know this in our “heart of hearts.” None of us are either
fools or ignoramuses.

But the horror of the present situation in education and religion
is that the general recognition of equity and fairness is not
perceived as affecting our entire surroundings by the power of
the thought and desire dynamics -- which operate, even if we are
unaware of them. But we RE AWARE OF THEM. Our Lower Minds
seeking self-gratification shuts out this perception and if
effects says we are fools to ever consider that is true.

As an example, if you ever watch several episodes of “LAW &
ORDER” (TV series) you will see how through investigative, and
then court procedures, the stripping away of false ideas and
perceptions is extremely painful to the personalities of the
wrong doers. To adhere to fairness and truth and to carve their
way through lie and deceit is extremely difficult for those who
seek to restore balance and equity using the faulty legal systems
of the present.

If we start with the concept we are all spiritual beings, then no
one is a stranger, and all are due the same fairness of dealings
we would expect to receive ourselves. when this “golden rule” is
abused, then all iniquities from the personal to the
international ensue.

you may not agree with these ideal ways of expressing this, but
taking the future into account, that we are all reincarnating
immortals, and inevitably we will all continue to live and
interact together, why not here and now treat each other with
truth and fairness, as brothers ? This is the FAMILY OF MAN, is
it not ?

Who judges? Universal Justice does. It is based on SPIRITUAL
LIVING. It is not short sighted, nor does it take the view that
death (of this personality) ends all responsibility.

Our problem is to see that this ONE LIFE is not the ONLY life.

I do not understand the phrase “forging ones self.” What part of
us will forgive the other part -- and for what ? Willfulness?
Ignorance ? But as I see it, these are self-made obstacles which
we can remove by limiting our desires. It is a self-generated
bit of police work, and the criminal is our lower selfish desires
and passions. and where do those come from? Do we need to adopt
others’ errors ?

Best wishes,

Dallas

Subject: Judging -- Who and How is that done?

Hi Dallas,

That explanation seems fairly accurate to me. There seems to be
another fundamental difference also; judging is 'punish'
oriented, no forgiveness! Discernment is constructive and based
on universal Love.

Judging is judgmental, basically pre-judiced because the
definitions of norms are made. The world, we live in, can not
function without judgment. That is how we built it. Probably, the
original world had no judging. The world where people live by the
standard of helping each other may not need any judging.

I am sure you know the story of Hell and Heaven where people were
at dining tables with their hands tied to the next person on both
sides. In Hell they were complaining at each other, where as in
Heaven they were feeding one next to them. This might explain my
attitude towards judging.

I need to forgive myself before I can learn to forgive my
neighbor!

Gopi
