TSA - Interesting Compensation Info on Internet

In the recent past, US Congress has been pushing for more disclosure of
information by non profit tax exempt organizations. Usually most
organizations have a built-in predisposition to disclose as little info as
is required legally. Times are changing with the congressional thrust and
is further aided by access provided by Internet.
The site www.guidestar.org has provided on-line, some of the tax return
information of these organizations which are in public domain.
Out of curiosity, I looked at the most recent 990 return of Theosophical
Society in America and it has information on the finances and activities,
including some compensation information of some of those who work at Olcott.
For example there is one employee who made $70,029.00 for the year ended
March 31, 2001. Many employees at Olcott may be totally in the dark about
the compensation paid to some of the higher paid employees.
This is in stark contrast to the early days of TS when volunteers were did
the pioneering work without looking forward to a paycheck and benefits!!!
One wonders why is the current lack of volunteerism after a century after
founding of TS.
Anyone interested may want to visit the above website and look for
themselves and satisfy their curiosity.
