What is the motive behind all this? Paul has chosen
to write about a question which can never be answered:
namely, who were the real people behind the "mahatma"
pseudonyms. But why would anyone want to campaign
against him relentlessly year after year for offering
some conjectures?

There is only one explanation that I can see: Daniel
does not want anyone to know the truth, and he is
afraid Paul may be right. Both of those must be right
on, because someone who wants to obscure the truth
would not campaign against a man who has not revealed
it.
