As I understand it the "astral" is a like a multi centered and
cooperative "force-field." It is, H.P.Blavatsky says in an
article PSYCHIC AND NOETIC ACTION [BLAVATSKY: Collected Works
(TPH) Vol. 12, p. 350; U L T H P B Articles, Vol. 2, p. 7 ]

She says there that the "atoms" are actually astral, while the
molecules are the physical forms that they infuse with life.

The whole is connected with Karma as you may read in her article
TRANSMUTATION OF LIFE ATOMS [ BLAVATSKY: Collected Works (TPH)
Vol. 5, p. 110; U L T H P B Articles Vol. II, p. 249 ]
