RE: Theos-World Early History in Boston -- R. Crosbie

Dear Frank,

I appreciate you are writing out of the feeling of loyalty you have towards
Katherine Tingley. I think on this occassion, however, you have gone too far
in your personal comments directed at Dallas. Whether you, I, or other
members of this group agree or otherwise with Dallas' views he has always
been consistent in stating his opinions are his own, he takes full
responsibility for them, and importantly, whether he writes on history or
philosophy he encourages each person to go find out for themselves the truth
or falsity of any subject matter offered. My impression of all that Dallas
writes is that he puts forth his own understanding for others to take or
leave and he does that in a way that treats the person he is writing to with
respect. You may not agree with his perspective, that is fair enough, but
to call him a liar does no justice at all to his position. Nor do such
personal attacks on a fellow theosophists add an ounce of credibility to
your views on the K. Tingley issue of successorship.

Whatever views each of us holds, whether on 'historical' of 'spiritual'
matters, the validity of such views must stand or fall on their own merit
not on the de-merit we may wish to attach to others. (Speaking generally,
there really is too much of the latter creeping into Theosophical
discussions on various Lists.)

As I understand it from reading your's and Dal's mails over the years, both
of you are lifelong and sincere students of The Mahatmas, HPB and William
Judge. What a rich field of endeavour, understanding and loyalty to have in
common! How sad it is that this cannot be enough to build upon even though
there may well be other important areas of disagreement.

with best wishes and respect,

...Peter
