Dear Mic:
In the KEY TO THEOSOPHY (HPB) and the OCEAN OF THEOSOPHY you
will find that H.P.Blavatsky and Mr. Judge give the "mechanism:
that releases the Spirit/Soul back into a new incarnation.
Briefly:
The Spiritual Ego, having reviewed and assimilated all the "good"
of the past incarnation has, before returning to Earth life in a
new baby body, a vision induced by the Atma under the Karma of
the entire past (many lives and their trail of karma) that it
has undergone, as well as the immediate future of the "new" life
to be.
Now under Karma they (the skandhas that carry its Karma) provide
the returning Devachanee, with a fresh body for it.
Karma operates all the time. Under the impact of the "unfinished
business" represented by the "little-lives" (or skandhas) of its
past lives, the Spiritual Ego is attracted back at the
appropriate time. In Kama-loka following the previous
incarnation, these were allowed to sink back into the general
material of nature and there wait for the return of the immortal
Ego.
The family it is born into provides it with the necessary
physical vehicle (body) and a psychic environment compatible with
its character, capacities and personal nature. Thus it is in
this "new" family, some members of which may have been very
close to it in its previous incarnations, where, it resumes its
evolution as a free Mind being. Assuming again those "skandhas
(in which its Karma resides as an imperishable impression) it
continues its pilgrimage.
Theosophy holds that one's own individual and personal Karma acts
as the "mechanism" that induces and guides the transfer from the
subjective Devachanic state to the psychic, astral and finally
physical body where it again takes up its life of development.
In the book Theosophical ARTICLES AND NOTES (published by the
UNITED LODGE OF THEOSOPHISTS) you will find several articles on
Devachan, originally written for the magazine THE THEOSOPHIST,
these explain the process in greater detail, but will be found to
be substantially the same as given briefly above. In the OCEAN
OF THEOSOPHY by Mr. Judge the Chapter No. 13 on DEVACHAN might
be consulted along with those on REINCARNATION and KAMA-LOKA
These are available at http://.www.blavatsky.net on line.
Best wishes,
Dallas

Subject: Theos-World reincarnation
By what mechanism does the soul leave Devachan and
re-enter the physical body? When is it decided that
this occurs?

Mic
