HPB states in numerous places that most Esoteric Schools (especially
free masonry) were compromised by the Jesuits - surely this is what
happened to the TS. - Is that the crux of the argument?

That is an interesting point. In "Isis unveiled" she said that every occult
body of the white side felt the hands of the Jesuits, the enemies of
Humankind. It would be really a big surprise when the Theosophical Movement
would be an except to that. But I personally have no direct knowledge which
individual or which body within the TM was or is taken over by Jesuits. In
many instances I have seen in the past personally theosophical officials
were working so stupid and against the interests of the cause that there was
no need for Jesuits!
But of course some of the big problems which occured over the decades in the
TM look like as if there is the hand of the SJ from behind. But to really
know what are the causes to certain results one would have to be an adept
with higher insight. HPB and Judge once said that the work of the Coloumbs
and Prof. Coues were directed by the Jesuits. OTOH, Annie Besant and Rudolf
Steiner accused each other to work for the Jesuits, which sounds more
rhetorical.
Interestingly enough, when such attacks appeared and the tree was shaked it
was always a very fruitful period for theosophical work. So I really hope
that the Jesuits are still interested in us.:-)
When even the SJ will not care anymore for Theosophy, then this is a sign of
agony and coma if not wrecking on the sandbank as in occultism every power
of the white side gives the same power the dark side and reverse.
