Capital Punishment

In the light of recent focus on Death Penalty in the USA, it may interest
some that the issue was debated in TS during Besant days at Adyar.
According to Ernest Wood, while there was no official stand on this issue,
there were two camps in TS. One opposed to Death Penalty and the other for
Death Penalty.
Those opposed had the simple argument that killing any living entity is not
right especially a human being. Those in favor of death penalty argued that
instead of a person spending life time in prison, by being executed has a
chance of being reborn quicker. So both camps were accommodated within the
large theosophical tent!
Has there been any recent attention to this issue within the theosophical
circles?
