Dear Friends:

H.P.B. and Theosophy (and also the Masters in the MAHATMA
LETTERS) will be found to give a word of caution on adventuring
into the realm of the Psychic which is a field of varied
consciousness -- intermediate between our physical body normal
waking state, and that of DEEP SLEEP when the body is fully
quiescent and the SPIRITUAL MONAD within, is able to function
without that distraction.

H.P.B. explained this to her students after the publication of
The SECRET DOCTRINE, when they gathered to ask her questions.
This dialog will be found printed in TRANSACTIONS OF THE
BLAVATSKY LODGE (BCW Vol. 10, pp. 252 -265). The sleeping states
and the dreaming states and the dialog that occurs nightly
between the Spiritual EGO and the mortal brain-mind ego of the
Waking Man are made clear by a series of careful explanations.
U.L.T. Edition between pp. 65 - 78 ]

Why not consider what H.P.B. offers us as a line for individual
progress, and something to be mediated on ? What is it in us who
desires to KNOW? What is our MOTIVE for such a desire?
Are we equipped to understand the differences in perceptive
powers that may pertain to such altered states? What can be
gained by adventuring within those ?

She carefully warns us about the allure of the psychic world and
the astral world. Yes she says there are curious and wonderful
things to be seen and experienced there, but like the "Hall of
Learning" described in VOICE OF THE SILENCE "First Fragment"
(pp 6-7, U.L.T. edition) "...under every flower [is] a serpent
coiled." The footnotes are significant as to the warning they
contain.

There are always to be found rash souls in search of excitement
to whom the keen edge of danger is life's blood. They like
Farragut might exclaim "Full steam ahead, and damn the
consequences."

If one desires to discover something in advance about the dangers
of the psychic and astral planes/worlds then it can be done by
reading ISIS UNVEILED , and H.P.B.'s articles:

ELEMENTALS, Lucifer Magazine 12, p. 537, Aug. 1893, and

THOUGHTS ON THE ELEMENTALS, Lucifer Vol. 6, p. 177, May 1890

ELEMENTARIES are dealt with by her in MODERN PANARION, p. 146,
152, and in

CONVERSATIONS ON OCCULTISM, Mr. W. Q. Judge provides excerpts
from his conversations with H.P.B. [ see W.Q.J. Articles, Vol I
383, 390 394, 405, 413, -- U.L.T. Edition Vol. I ] In THE OCEAN
OF THEOSOPHY, Chapters 16 and 17, Mr. Judge also covers the
nature and dangers of the Psychic and Astral realms.

Additional to this we would ask if you may have read
Bulwer-Lytton's ZANONI, and his other book "A STRANGE STORY."
These two books give a vivid account of experiences between the
states of consciousness (our waking state) and the
(psycho-spiritual states).

Best wishes,

Dallas
