                                    RE: Nastika      S.D. I 279

DearModerator:

As Iunderstand it a “Nastika” disbelieves in IDOLS or any kind of concrete representations of the UNIVERSAL ONE WHOLE.  Such a Nastika may employ the philosophies and religious scriptures of the part and present, but is never deluded into the blind and unreasonable belief that there is “somewhere” a PERSONAL GOD who will give him “something for nothing” -- for what is the intrinsic value of a prayer or a petition from someone who has already committed a crime, and knows it ?

It would be demeaning to any GOD if he was not also OMNISCIENT.  In which case does the petitionerthink that his misdemeanor is totally hidden from the DEITY he centers his petition on?

After the commission of a false deed or word, does the petitioner believe the GOD of his choice will believe in the future validity and rigid adherence to the vow such a petition conveys : of non-repetition ?  Or does the petitioner expect to pay his way out of trouble by giving money or property to a Priest or to a Church?  Lets be reasonable.  But let us first assume that GOD is not like the village idiot, and a total  ignoramus.

If aGod is all powerful, all-seeing, and merciful, just, etc… would he not demand of the offender as a first attempt at restitution to go and assist his victimsand bare his heart to them and seek their pardon?

Who ever imagined that their mission on earth was to CONVERT others to a “truereligion?”  If GOD has permitted other religions and creeds, then in HIS WISDOM was this not necessary ?  Do MEN presume to tell the ALL MIGHTY what to do?  I hear and see of it daily.  Do many fail to see these points ?

I believe that H.P.B. in the quotation draws attention tom the fact that in India while there are many who pray to “IDOLS” as is done round the world, for that matter, there is a sect of philosophers who makes no prayers as they consider DEITYto be universal, impartial, just, and impartite

Theyare sure that KARMA (Desire  or rather the KAMADEVA -- a universal Urge  -- see S.D. II 176 and T. Glos. p. 171)  is the ultimate CAUSE of all manifestation.  In fact the are sure that the UNIVERSAL MONAD consists of an apparent differentiation between SPIRIT and MATTER -- so that two poles of contrast might be formed, and hereby the myriads of MONADS each one like to the UNIVERSAL MONAD and to each other might “mirror” the ONE ONLY ONE -- the ABSOLUTENESS m(indescribable in our terms).

Hopethis is of help

Subject: [bn-sd] The Secret Doctrine teaches no Atheism - SD I 279

Friends,

We move on to consider the next series of numbered passage in the Summary.  After this we will look at "A few Occult Aphorisms" (pages 289-292).  All of these will hopefully gives us something of a firmer background when we come to look at the Stanzas in volume one.

Our current passage is as follows

================
(1)  The Secret Doctrine teaches no Atheism, except inthe Hindu sense of the word nastika, or the rejection of idols,
including every anthropomorphic god.  In this sense every Occultist is a Nastika.  (SD I 279)

================

 Any thoughts or  Comments?

...Peter
