There certainly would be no end to it.

With regards to humility I am not an advocate of the dissolution of 
the Self- after all the effort that has been put into developing the 
Self or "I" what is the point of anhilating it? Egotism is not 
paradoxically, a result of a strong ego but a weakened ego condition.

There are spiritual schools too, which seek to weaken the egos of 
their students- another bad idea. Our obstinancy is a special gift.

Another peculiar thing is those schools who advocate total freedom 
and then go about imposing all sorts of rules of regulations.

Are we selfish in desiring a true and proper development?
No, because that is the way of Nature- as plants grow so do we. 
(Being self conscious of it may be a problem.)
