Thank you Andrew
The quotes from ML were apt. There is as least some support for the veg ideal
in high places! Seriously, I think we could agree that being or not being Veg
is a very personal decision. While I am one of the ones who gave up being a
carnivore some forty years ago, it is only a small step towards an ideal; one
has to start somewhere. Diet is one of the things over which we do have some
control in our lives. As for the comments about other members (unbrotherliness
etc. I fear this is not confined to the Vegetarians, the Carnivores forget
themselves occasionally :-) ). I like to suggest that there is a continuum from
cannibalism at one end of the scale to living on prana only (even if it kills
you :-) ) at the other. Where you draw the line is a matter of personal choice
and understanding. There may be some medical benefits, there may be some
spiritual benefits, but mainly, for myself, I prefer not to be directly involved
with the trucking and slaughter of thousands of sentient creatures who have done
me no harm. Especially so when there are lots of alternative forms of food
available. If it was a matter of necessity there might be an excuse, but where
not, then LOVE (as the airlines have it (L_acto O_varian Ve_getarian) is
better. (Vegan is no doubt best but too hard IMHO if you live in the world).
Charles.
