Dear Dallas
You write:
<<<<<After the death of HPB and WQJ students that made themselves responsible for continuing the work of Theosophy began to insert their opinions as a such a continuing part and it became fashionable to say that “if HPB (or Judge) were alive, they would say “so and so.” Some also were pleased to find that HPB had made mistakes in quotations, in dates, in other matters of science, for instance, and thus demonstrated that their scholarship exceeded hers in this minor regard. What became lost in the ensuing scuffles was the SCOPE of Theosophy which far exceeded any departmentalized studies or research. That is UNIQUE to HPB as contemporary scholars admitted.>>>>>
The SD was a triple production by HPB and the Masters. Others who later made alterations, changed things, said this was wrong, etc., were often specialised, and therefore deficient (like the rest of us), and they were only capable of looking at something from ONE SIDE ONLY. That is, they were/are totally incapable of seeing the whole picture. So what seems wrong when just looking at from one tiny viewpoint, is right when viewed in the whole.
The Masters, for example, SEE what a person is "saying" and thinking, which may be different to the words that are coming out of their mouths (and even to what they themselves think they are thinking). Similarly, when the quotes made in THE SECRET DOCTRINE are different to what is actually written in the original quote, may it not be likewise. That the Masters go to the source of the writer's thoughts rather than to the written page - thus the SD portrays something more accurate to what was actually written. It is easy to change and alter the SD to a personal one sided way of thinking. Far, far, easier than studying what is actually written in the SD. The Masters go to the CAUSE. We bathe in, and attach a lot of importance to the effects. We are creatures of impermanence. We try to find the permanent in the impermanant. Hence the pain and suffering (intellectual and mental) we all go through.
Best wishes
Tony
